About

Origin

Drengsiðr is a modern religious path rooted in the enduring values found within Norse and Germanic traditions, particularly the concept of drengskapr—a code of honor centered on courage, excellence, and reliability. The name Drengsiðr is a modern compound derived from Old Norse drengr (‘honorable person, warrior’) and siðr (‘custom, way’), meaning “the way of the drengr.”

While inspired by the worldview preserved in sources such as the Poetic Edda, Prose Edda, and Icelandic sagas, Drengsiðr is not an attempt to perfectly reconstruct the past exactly as it was. Instead, it is a deliberate continuation—a living tradition that carries forward the ethical backbone of Norse culture into the modern world.

Drengsiðr emerges from the recognition that while time changes, the need for honorable conduct does not. It is founded on the belief that individuals can and should cultivate strength of character, reliability in action, and responsibility to their communities.

This path is open to all who are willing to uphold its standards. It rejects exclusionary ideologies and affirms that honor is demonstrated through actions and reinforced by reputation.

Mission

The mission of Drengsiðr is to cultivate individuals who embody drengskapr in both private life and public service.

We seek to:

  • Develop disciplined, dependable individuals guided by honor
  • Provide a structured ethical framework grounded in Norse tradition
  • Foster strong communities built on mutual respect and accountability
  • Offer spiritual and moral support to those in demanding professions, including military and emergency services
  • Preserve and transmit a living tradition that emphasizes action over abstraction

Drengsiðr serves as both a personal path and a communal standard—encouraging its adherents to become people others can rely upon without hesitation.

Values

Honor (Drengskapr)

Honor is the foundation of Drengsiðr. It is expressed through integrity, accountability, and the consistent alignment of word and action. A person of honor does not act differently when unobserved; they remain steadfast in all circumstances.

Courage

Courage is the willingness to face hardship, uncertainty, and consequence without retreat. It is not limited to physical bravery, but includes moral courage—the ability to stand firm in truth, uphold one’s commitments, and act rightly despite pressure or fear.

Duty

Duty is the recognition of obligation—to one’s self, one’s community, and one’s commitments. Drengsiðr teaches that responsibility is not conditional; it is to be fulfilled fully and without excuse.

Dignity

Dignity is the maintenance of self-respect and the recognition of worth in others. It requires disciplined conduct, restraint, and the refusal to degrade oneself or others through word or action.

Excellence

Excellence is the continual pursuit of improvement in all aspects of life. It rejects complacency and demands effort, refinement, and a commitment to mastering one’s craft, role, and responsibilities.

Dependability

Dependability is the outward proof of all other values. A dependable person can be trusted to act, to follow through, and to uphold their obligations without fail. In Drengsiðr, reliability is not optional—it is expected.
